THINKING Receives the First Over-voltage Certificate of Automotive Electronics from UL

UL, the international safety science company, awarded the first UL1449A certificate of automotive over-voltage protective component to THINKING, one of the leading circuit protective component manufacturers. The certified product is over-voltage protective component for 48Vdc vehicle power.

Jonathan T.H. Chen, Vice President& Managing Director of Underwriters Laboratories Taiwan Co., Ltd., awarded UL1449A certificate of automotive over-voltage protection to THINKING. He said, “Our engineering team researches and develops safety standards for automotive electronics, and we hope to devote to safety of key automotive components. The certificate I award to THINKING today is the first UL1449A certificate worldwide. We hope this certificate will bring THINKING more opportunities in EV market.”

Jeff Ho, General Manager of THINKING Electronics Industrial Co., Ltd said, “It is our honor to receive the first certificate of automotive over-voltage protection. THINKING has been working in automotive market for a long time. Our R&D team work extremely hard and keep improving our products in recent years. Their hard work makes us receive the certificate today and work with well-known automotive manufacturers from Europe, the United States, and Japan. We are happy to cooperate with UL this time to promote automotive electronics.”

THINKING’s everywhere protection for automotive electronics

Automotive industry viewed EOS (Electrical Over Stress) as the basic requirement of automotive electronics at the beginning of 2010. Over-voltage is one of the major causes of vehicle failures because of the mobility of vehicles.

12Vdc and 24Vdc vehicle powers do not satisfy the needs of the automotive industry, and the industry urges the introduction of 48Vdc vehicle power. However, there is no protective component offering over-voltage protection for 48Vdc vehicle power.

In addition, the existing regulation does not offer safety standards for 48Vdc vehicle power. For this reason, UL issues UL1449A standard. Then, THINKING produces the automotive varistor with its advanced ceramic material technology and manufacturing process, and the component becomes the first UL1449A compliant automotive varistor in the globe.

In the following years, vehicle power will moves toward a revolutionary change, and major applications for new era are advanced lighting, autonomous driving, mobile communication, high efficiency power supply, low exhaust emission, electrification, and energy storage. Those applications need controllers to work. Circuit protective components with excellent quality are needed to meet zero-failure goal of automotive industry. THINKING has devoted to automotive electronics for some ten years, and it meets the market needs with its advanced ceramic material technology and manufacturing process.

UL is the leading safety certification company in the industry.

Underwriters Laboratory (UL) was founded in 1894. It is the most authoritative safety science company in the United States, and is one of the most well-known civil organizations engaging in security experiments and identification in the globe. UL adopts scientific testing methods to study all kinds of materials, devices, products, equipments, and buildings to identify whether or not the above-mentioned items are harmful and the extent of their harmfulness to life and property. Identifying, preparing, and issuing appropriate standards reduce and prevent the loss of life and property while carrying out fact-finding business.

The most advanced and comprehensive certification standards are in North American markets, and the markets have higher requirements for product certification. Electronics products must meet the standards for entering the U.S. market. For assisting manufacturers in certification, UL works closely with safety certification organizations and companies, including ANSI (the U.S.), ZLS (Germany), METI (Japan), and CQC (Mainland China).

12 years hard working of THINKING in automotive protective component market

THINKING began working on automotive market in 2008. However, European, American, and Japanese automotive manufacturers required automotive components with self declaration of AEC-Q200. For entering the markets, THINKING improved its products and met the requirement. Its improved products were able to work in extreme temperature, humidity, and vibration environments and were applied in high efficiency lighting, start-stop system, power driven system, DC/DC converter, air conditioning system, and power battery.

Automotive industry moves toward a new era via automotive electronization and electrification in the recent decade. Increase of vehicle power is the first priority. THINKING obtains the first UL1449A certificate of automotive over-voltage protection by its ceramic material technology and advanced manufacturing process. In addition to self declaration of AEC-Q200, safety certification from a third party inspection company offers objectiveness and credibility of THINKING product quality.

12 years hard working in automotive protective components enables THINKING to offer protective components with good quality and higher reliability to serve the market with its good service.
